Introduction

I have been having a lot of fun over on my YouTube channel building out videos for various topics including new features in the Windows Insider builds. However, this isn’t my first time doing videos. I have done a couple of courses for Packt Publishing. One of them is Windows 10 Administration .

The course has 6 main sections that take you on a whirlwind journey through Windows 10 Administration. It starts with configuring Windows 10, but I don’t just talk about setting it up. I also talk about settings, notifications, the lock screen and configuring networking.

Next I move on to managing devices where we go through the process of updating drivers and controlling automatic updates. This section finishes with my favorite topic managing printers .

No course on Windows would be complete without a section on securing Windows 10, and this is the third topic I cover. I talk about the security and maintenance panel, managing users, logons with Windows Hello and more. It starts pretty easy and goes in-depth into Windows 10 with topics on BitLocker and Encrypted File System.

Section 4 covers the maintenance of Windows 10. Beyond the obvious Backup and Restore as well as Windows Update, I also have time to talk about Disk Cleanup and Windows Reset.

The last two sections cover what I consider to be advanced topics. Troubleshooting and Virtualization. Although I don’t go too far down either of these rabbit holes, I do cover enough information to help you decide if you should learn more.

Why is Windows 10 Administration important?

In this world of working from home our IT Professionals are being stretched thin. Their job is more difficult now that everything is remote. Learning Windows 10 administration is important because it can help you be self-sufficient and not have to rely on the help desk.

Knowing where all the options are in the settings panel and knowing what options exist helps you be a more effective team member. Knowing how to troubleshoot your own printer means that the help desk can focus on other things.

Securing and updating your Windows 10 machine makes you a better internet citizen.

How can Windows 10 Administration help developers?

All of this is important to developers because waiting for a help desk callback is valuable time that they could be working on code. Beyond that though learning about virtualization can help a developer get a second system up and running or a server system running on their local box.

Conclusion

If you are new to Windows 10 or know enough to get by I would recommend this course to you because it’ll help you. Please check it out. It’s on sale for a limited time at Udemy . If you do check it out let me know what you think so I can do better next time.
